| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse presents a central allegorical vignette of three classical figures — Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture — grouped around a terrestrial globe, rendered in fine intaglio engraving. The bank's title, THE CANADIAN BANK OF COMMERCE, runs across the top border, with the denomination FIVE DOLLARS in large letterpress type at centre-left beneath the promise clause WILL PAY TO BEARER ON DEMAND. A circular guilloche vignette to the right displays the bank's coat of arms with a sailing ship, and the date TORONTO, 2ND JANUARY, 1917 appears at lower centre. Large ornamental V numerals appear in each upper corner and lower corner, with serial numbers in red flanking the central vignette. |
