The denomination numeral 5 appears in the upper corners, while a portrait of a bearded gentleman in formal attire occupies the right side. The central panel bears the obligation text WILL PAY TO BEARER / FIVE DOLLARS / ON DEMAND within an ornate surround, with the issue place and date HAMILTON, 8 JUNE 1892 below, accompanied by serial number and manuscript signatures of the Pro Cashier and President. |

The bank title BANK OF HAMILTON arches above the central vignette in bold lettering, flanked by elaborate scrollwork and guilloche rosettes, with numeral 5 counters placed in each corner. Dense lathe-work borders and ornamental flourishes frame the composition throughout, in the manner characteristic of late nineteenth-century Canadian chartered bank note engraving. |
