| Obverse description | Printed in black with green tinting by intaglio and letterpress, the obverse carries at left a large allegorical vignette of a standing female figure with a serpent set within a circular guilloche underprint, with the legend DOMINION OF CANADA along the left margin. The denomination numeral 5 appears in the upper corners, while a portrait of a bearded gentleman in formal attire occupies the right side. The central panel bears the obligation text WILL PAY TO BEARER / FIVE DOLLARS / ON DEMAND within an ornate surround, with the issue place and date HAMILTON, 8 JUNE 1892 below, accompanied by serial number and manuscript signatures of the Pro Cashier and President. |
