Reverse description The reverse presents the central square perforation flanked above and below by two Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), reading top to bottom: 五 (Wu, five) and 厘 (Li), denoting a denomination equivalent to five cash or five li of silver. The characters are boldly cast in high relief, centred within a plain, slightly raised outer rim, with a smooth, unadorned field typical of Southern Ming provincial mint production.
