The Kewang regime — established by Zhu Youlang's rival claimant Zhu Changying in the chaotic final years of Southern Ming resistance — controlled only fragmentary territory in Guangdong and never commanded the resources of a stable mint operation. The Xingchao Tongbao issues consequently show considerable variation in fabric and module, which accounts for the dual Hartill listing: 21.11 and 21.12 represent distinct casting variants rather than separate emission periods.
By 1657 the dynasty had collapsed under Qing military pressure, making the entire issue window under a decade.
