The central text panel, headed 'Stadt Elberfeld' and '5 Millionen Mark' in the upper corners, bears the Notgeld authorisation text in German, with the value 'Fünf Millionen Mark' set in bold Gothic display type over a pale orange underprint vignette. The lower portion gives the issue date 'Elberfeld, 18. August 1923', a serial number, and the facsimile signature of the Oberbürgermeister accompanied by an official violet cachet stamp. To the right a separate panel contains the city arms of Elberfeld — a crowned lion passant within a shield — rendered in blue and orange. |
