| Description de l’avers | Half-length effigy of Duke Johan facing slightly to the right, wearing a high ruff collar with a folded band draped over the right shoulder, rendered in the elaborate court dress of the early seventeenth century. The ducal figure is contained within a double-line inner circle, with two concentric lines of Latin legend occupying the surrounding annular field. The portrait is executed in a bold, relief style characteristic of contemporary Swedish hammered coinage. The date 1614 appears within the outer legend. The overall composition reflects the formal heraldic portraiture conventions of the period. |

Johan, Duke of Östergötland was a son of Charles IX and younger brother of Gustav II Adolf, granted the duchy as an appanage in 1606. He died in 1618 at age seventeen, making his entire coining period compressed into roughly a decade and the later issues — this 1614 piece among them — struck for a teenager who would never rule independently. The duchy itself was absorbed back into the Swedish crown shortly after his death.
The Type III designation within KM#63 reflects die variation across a short production window, not a policy change.
