The effigy is rendered in high relief in the colonial milled style. The circular legend reads FERDND·VI·D·G·HISPAN·ET IND·REX, identifying the monarch as King of Spain and the Indies by the grace of God. The mint date, here 1748, appears in the lower field flanked by decorative rosette stops. The coin's rim is defined by a continuous milled border. |

| Description du revers | The crowned Royal Arms of Spain displayed as a quartered shield at center, bearing the castles of Castile and the lions of León in alternating quarters, with a central escutcheon bearing the French Bourbon fleur-de-lis. The shield is surmounted by a large royal crown in high relief. To the left of the shield the denomination numeral 4 appears, flanked by decorative rosette stops. The mint assayer initials and mint mark — M for Mexico City, Mo as the monogram, and F for assayer Felipe de Urbiña — appear in the lower field. The circular legend NOMINA MAGNA SEQUOR, meaning 'I follow the loftiest of names,' runs around the upper periphery. |
