The legend reads: THORVNIA / HOSTILITER OPPUGNATA ET DEO AUXILIANTE / AC CIVIBUS DEFENSA DIE XVI FEBR. ANNO DOM. MDCXXIX. The composition is entirely textual and heraldic, with no portrait effigy, reflecting the commemorative nature of the issue. The hammered flan displays characteristic uneven surfaces typical of early seventeenth-century municipal coinage. |
