| Reverse description | The reverse presents a finely detailed bust-length portrait of the 11th-century Turkic scholar and lexicographer Mahmud al-Kashgari (Kaşgarlı Mahmut), depicted three-quarter facing left and wearing a traditional turban. He holds open a large manuscript volume—representing his monumental work Diwan Lughat al-Turk—with Arabic script visible on the pages. The engraver's signature 'N. YERLİBUCAK' is incised at the lower center of the field. The curved legend 'KAŞGARLI MAHMUT' arcs across the upper field, with the subsidiary inscription '1000. DOĞUM YILI' (1000th Birth Anniversary) below it. |
