Reverse description The Annunciation scene depicted in two registers within the field: at left, the Archangel Gabriel stands in three-quarter profile facing right, holding a lily stalk as a symbol of purity; at right, the Virgin Mary is shown seated and turned towards the Angel in an attitude of reception and humility. The figures are rendered in a simplified but expressive hammered style typical of late sixteenth- and early seventeenth-century Italian minor coinage. A circular Latin legend in the outer border identifies the denomination, reading MONE DA QVATRI TRENTA, meaning 'coin of thirty quattrinos', separated by pellet stops.
