Königsau — today Královka, a small village in what is now the Czech Republic — was part of the German-speaking Sudetenland when this note was issued. The 1920 date places it in the post-collapse period following the dissolution of Austria-Hungary, when the new Czechoslovak state was still stabilizing its currency and small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from rural circulation. Municipal Notgeld of this type was a practical local response, authorized at the commune level and backed by nothing more formal than community trust.
Johann Riepl's signature as issuing authority is the only guarantee on the note. These village-issued pieces were typically printed in very small quantities and rarely traveled far.
