Obverse description Central field bears the VOC bale mark of the Dutch East India Company, comprising the Scottish Mason's 'Sign of Four' device surmounting a heart, with the company's initials 'V.E.I.C.' arranged around the central motif. The Gregorian date 1787 appears in the lower field, divided by a decorative rosette. The design is crisp and mechanically struck, consistent with a pattern production by an accomplished engraver.
