| Description du revers | The reverse depicts a hoplitodromos — an ancient Greek armed runner — rendered in the style of classical red-figure pottery, shown in mid-stride facing left and carrying a round shield (aspis) on his left arm and a helmet in his right hand, his nude athletic form captured in dynamic motion. The figure is executed in golden silhouette against a darkened field, faithfully evoking the aesthetic of Attic vase painting. The design is enclosed by a continuous Greek meander (key pattern) border running along the inner rim, itself framed by the coin's polished outer edge. No legends or inscriptions appear on the reverse, allowing the artistic motif to dominate the field entirely. |

The hoplitodromos — a footrace run in full armor — was one of the more brutal additions to the ancient Olympic program, introduced in 520 BC and contested through the end of the ancient Games. The BEAC's commemorative series leaned heavily on classical athletic subjects during the mid-2010s, targeting the European collector market ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympics rather than commemorating anything specific to Central African monetary history.
Gold-plated silver issues of this type were struck in limited quantities for the numismatic trade and saw no circulation across the six BEAC member states.
