Beschrijving keerzijde Central design depicts a traditional Maldivian schooner (dhoni) under full sail, shown underway on stylized waves with billowing sails rendered in fine detail. To the left of the vessel, a small tropical island with palm trees recedes into the background, evoking the maritime heritage of the Maldivian archipelago. The curved legend THE MALDIVIAN SCHOONER arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script, while the denomination 250 RUFIYAA is inscribed in the lower field. The entire design is struck to proof standard against a deeply mirrored background.

Aanvullende informatie

The Maldivian schooner — the odi — was the backbone of inter-atoll trade for centuries, moving dried fish, coconut products, and construction timber across a nation whose 1,200 islands made maritime transport the only practical commerce. By 1990, diesel-powered vessels had largely displaced traditional sail, making this issue something of a formal acknowledgment of a vanishing working tradition rather than a living one.
