| Description de l’avers | The Italian Kingdom coat of arms, supported by two heraldic lions, occupies the upper centre, flanked by encircled denomination numerals "250" at upper left and right. A central cartouche carries the legal text, bordered below by two reclining allegorical female figures: Industry at left, holding a gear and a work tool with a stylized cornucopia at her feet, and Agriculture at right, holding a sickle and a wheat sheaf with a caduceus of Asclepius at her feet. Italy's Banca Nazionale nel Regno d'Italia issued this note under royal charter during a period of fierce political debate over which institutions should hold the right of emission. Three banks — Banca Nazionale, Banca Nazionale Toscana, and Banca Toscana di Credito — all retained circulation rights simultaneously, making interoperability a constant administrative headache. The 250 Lire denomination itself was an awkward middle value, neither the workhorse 100 nor the high-value 500, and it was never reissued after the series ended.
The San Teodoro workshop in Rome was the government's own production facility, brought into service specifically to reduce dependence on foreign security printers.
