| Reverse description | A contemporary male discus thrower is depicted in high relief at centre, shown in dynamic mid-wind-up pose with the discus raised overhead, evoking the classical Discobolus tradition in a modern athletic rendering. Behind the figure, stylised grandstand bleachers extend diagonally to either side, with a torch and javelin visible to the left. To the upper left of the figure, the official logo of the European Athletics Championships appears. The legend XIII ΠΑΝΕΥΡΩΠΑΙΚΟΙ ΑΓΩΝΕΣ ΣΤΙΒΟΥ ΑΘΗΝΑ 1982 (13th European Athletics Championships Athens 1982) arcs along the upper periphery, while the inscription Ι. ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΔΑ 1896 and the motto ΡΗΤΟΙ Τ'ΑΡΡΗΤΟΙ ΤΕ appear in the lower field and exergue respectively. The engraver's initials are visible in the lower left field. |

| Additional information |
Greece hosted the 1982 Pan-European Athletics Championships in Athens — a relatively modest event in international terms, but politically significant for a country that had only returned to democratic governance seven years earlier following the collapse of the military junta. The silver commemorative series issued for the games was among the first major numismatic programs produced under the restored Hellenic Republic's normalized banking authority.
KM#137 is one of several denominations struck for the series, each assigned a different athletic discipline.
