To the left, a large intaglio-style vignette of a full-rigged sailing vessel under sail occupies the center-left, with the Emden city skyline visible on the waterline in the background; the city coat of arms — a crowned shield with a figure above wavy lines — appears in the upper-left corner above the inscription EMDEN. The scene renders a view of the old harbour gate area of Emden (Am alten Hasentor), with a large merchant building to the left, a classical gateway arch bearing the Latin inscription Si Emda Et Portus Et Aura Daes at centre, a medieval round tower to the far right, and figures with boats and dock equipment in the foreground waterway. A decorative cartouche at the top bears the title legend in blackletter script. |
