The scene renders a view of the old harbour gate area of Emden (Am alten Hasentor), with a large merchant building to the left, a classical gateway arch bearing the Latin inscription Si Emda Et Portus Et Aura Daes at centre, a medieval round tower to the far right, and figures with boats and dock equipment in the foreground waterway.
