| Beschrijving voorzijde | The central vignette carries the municipal coat of arms of Wernigerode — a red castellated gateway with a round tower above and a fish in the base field, set against a pale blue ground. Flanking the shield are two decorative column pedestals, each surmounted by a grotesque mask and bearing a polychrome medieval figure in green livery; foliate ornaments fill the lateral panels. The denomination numeral '25' appears in large red characters at each lower corner, with the date 'Wernigerode a. H. den 20. 12. 20.' and a manuscript authorization signature above the serial number at foot, beneath the imprint 'LOUIS KOCH · HALBERSTADT.' |

Wernigerode's 1920 Notgeld issue was part of the massive wave of municipal emergency money that flooded Germany as the Reichsbank struggled to keep small-denomination coinage in circulation following wartime metal requisitions and postwar hoarding. Louis Koch of Halberstadt was a regional printer who handled numerous Notgeld contracts for towns throughout the Harz area during this period — a practical choice of proximity over prestige.
Wernigerode's series is moderately collected today, largely on the strength of the town's tourist appeal rather than any particular rarity in the printing run.
