Aversbeschreibung	Right-facing draped bust of Kwame Nkrumah occupying most of the field, modelled in high relief by sculptor Cecil Thomas, whose engraver's initials C.T. appear below the truncation. A circular raised legend surrounds the effigy, reading CIVITATIS GHANIENSIS CONDITOR above and KWAME·NKRUMAH below, the full Latin inscription translating as 'Kwame Nkrumah, Founder of the State of Ghana'. The portrait is contained within a recessed inner border, with a plain rim enclosing the design.

Reversbeschreibung	A large five-pointed star dominates the centre of the field, rendered in bold relief against a plain background, with the four digits of the date split to either side of the star's lower points — '19' to the left and '65' to the right. The legend TWENTY FIVE arcs across the upper field and PESEWAS curves along the lower field, both separated from the inner border by a scalloped decorative collar of raised beads. The overall design is enclosed within a raised rim.
