Gunthamund ruled the Vandal kingdom from 484 to 496, inheriting a realm that had already stripped North Africa's Roman administrative machinery and bent it to new purposes — including coinage. The Vandals issued silver denominations in direct imitation of the late Roman system, and Carthage, as the kingdom's capital, remained the sole functioning mint. At 0.32g, these pieces were already fractional curiosities by any practical standard, yet the denomination persisted.
The reference spread across MEC, BMC, and MIB reflects genuine scholarly disagreement over precise attribution within Gunthamund's reign, as die links between issues remain incompletely mapped.
