Gunthamund ruled the Vandal kingdom from 484 to 496, inheriting a realm that had already stripped North Africa's Roman administrative machinery and bent it to new purposes — including coinage. The Vandals issued silver denominations in direct imitation of the late Roman system, and Carthage, as the kingdom's capital, remained the sole functioning mint.
