Above the shield rises a helmet surmounted by a conch shell crest with native vegetation, and below the shield a scroll carries the national motto FORWARD, UPWARD, ONWARD TOGETHER. The Bahamian 25-cent piece in copper-nickel replaced an earlier nickel-bonded steel version that had caused persistent problems with vending equipment and transit systems throughout the islands. The non-magnetic distinction — captured in the KM#63.2 subtype designation — was the direct result of that practical pressure, not a redesign initiative.
