| Description de l’avers | The central field bears the full coat of arms of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, featuring a quartered shield depicting a rising sun above a British galleon on stylised waves, supported on the dexter by a marlin and on the sinister by a flamingo, both standing on a grassy mound. Above the shield rises a helmet surmounted by a conch shell crest with native vegetation, and below the shield a scroll carries the national motto FORWARD, UPWARD, ONWARD TOGETHER. The legend COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS arcs around the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, and the date 2005 appears in the lower field. The design is enclosed by a beaded border. |

The Bahamian 25-cent piece in copper-nickel replaced an earlier nickel-bonded steel version that had caused persistent problems with vending equipment and transit systems throughout the islands. The non-magnetic distinction — captured in the KM#63.2 subtype designation — was the direct result of that practical pressure, not a redesign initiative.
