Opmerkingen

Illana is a small municipality in the province of Guadalajara, Castile. During the Spanish Civil War, hundreds of local councils across Republican-held territory issued their own emergency paper fractional currency — billetes de necesidad — when the flight of metallic coin made small change essentially impossible to obtain. Illana's 25 céntimos falls squarely in this category: a hyperlocal fiscal stopgap with no issuing bank behind it, just a municipal stamp and wartime necessity.

The Garicoin reference gap suggests this piece remains uncatalogued or insufficiently documented, which is not unusual for the smaller Castilian municipalities.
