| Beschrijving keerzijde | Head of Africa facing right, wearing the distinctive elephant-skin headdress, a canonical personification type widely used in Numidian and related North African coinage. The scalp and trunk of the elephant are rendered in relief over the crown of the head, with the ear and tusk visible framing the face. The facial features are modelled in a naturalistic Hellenistic style. The flan is irregular, and no surrounding legend or exergual inscription is present. |

Iarbas seized the Numidian throne during the chaos following the death of Hiempsal II, briefly holding power with the backing of the Marian faction in Rome. His reign ended when Pompey arrived in Africa in 81 BC on Sulla's orders, defeated him militarily, and restored the pro-Sullan Hiempsal II — after which Iarbas was executed. The entire coinage of his reign falls within that narrow, violent window.
