The Ukrainian People's Republic and its successor governments cycled through multiple printing arrangements between 1917 and 1920, with some denominations produced in Kyiv and others contracted abroad — the distinction matters when assessing paper and ink quality across surviving examples.
At 2000 Hryven, this was among the highest denominations issued during the period, a direct consequence of the inflationary pressure driven by civil war, competing occupation currencies, and the near-complete breakdown of commodity exchange in 1918 Ukraine.
