200 Somoni Parliament

The 200 Somoni denomination was introduced for commemorative gold issues by the National Bank of Tajikistan in the mid-2000s, a period when the country was still consolidating its monetary framework following the redenomination of 2000, which replaced the Tajikistani ruble at a rate of 1,000 to one. The somoni itself was named after Ismoil Somoni, the 9th-century Samanid ruler whose reign is considered a high point of Persian-language culture in Central Asia.

This particular issue commemorates the Tajik parliament, the Majlisi Oli, reconstituted under the 1994 constitution after the civil war that had devastated the country through most of the 1990s.
