Applied over this surface are two countermarks applied during the reign of Afonso VI: an upper crowned oval punch bearing the numeral '200' denoting the new revalued denomination of 200 réis, and a lower crowned oval punch bearing the earlier countermark '150', indicating a prior revaluation. Both punches are applied in the field of the cross, consistent with standard Brazilian countermarking practice of the 1660s. |
