| Opis awersu | The obverse displays the crowned Portuguese royal arms at centre, featuring the quartered shield with castles and bezants (quinas), surmounted by a royal crown. Flanking the shield on each side are the characteristic Portuguese quinas roundels. The surrounding legend reads PHILIPPVS in Latin characters, identifying this as the host coin — a Portuguese tostão struck under King Filipe III of Portugal. The entire design is struck on a broadly flan of irregular shape, typical of hammered silver coinage of the period. |

| Opis rewersu | The reverse of the host tostão features the Cross of the Order of Christ at centre, formed by a large plain cross within a beaded inner circle, with the circular legend of João IV or another Portuguese monarch partially visible around the periphery. Applied over this surface are two countermarks applied during the reign of Afonso VI: an upper crowned oval punch bearing the numeral '200' denoting the new revalued denomination of 200 réis, and a lower crowned oval punch bearing the earlier countermark '150', indicating a prior revaluation. Both punches are applied in the field of the cross, consistent with standard Brazilian countermarking practice of the 1660s. |
