Additional information

The rack railway connecting Štrba to Štrbské Pleso opened in 1896, making this coin a centenary issue. It remains one of the few rack railways still operating in Slovakia, climbing roughly 350 metres over just under 5 kilometres through the High Tatras — a route that served the mountain resort long before road access made the journey trivial. The line originally ran on steam traction before electrification in 1932.
