| Descrizione del dritto | A stylized map of the Atlantic Ocean dominates the field, flanked by two period sailing vessels rendered in relief. A vertical line bisecting the map represents the line of demarcation established by the Treaty of Tordesillas on 7 June 1494, shifted 370 leagues west of the Cape Verde Islands from the meridian originally decreed by Pope Alexander VI in 1493. Shaded regions on the map indicate the Portuguese sphere of influence, encompassing future Brazil to the west and Africa to the east, the latter further identified by the Arms of Portugal superimposed upon it. The circular legend REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA and the denomination 200 ESCUDOS appear around the periphery. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse presents paired portrait effigies arranged on either side of a central axis corresponding to the treaty's line of demarcation. To the left, the busts of Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon are depicted, accompanied by the Castilian standard; to the right, the effigy of King João II of Portugal appears alongside the Portuguese royal banner. The legend at the top names the treaty and its commemorative anniversary, while the lower field bears the names of the depicted monarchs in Latin inscription. The engravers' signatures ISABEL C. and F. BRANCO appear in the lower portion of the field. |
