The annular field surrounding the central disk carries the legend IMPERIO DO BRAZIL disposed around the circumference in bold raised capital letters. The entire design is enclosed by a finely toothed milled border. The coin is oriented so that the legend reads correctly from the top, giving the piece a medal-like presentation typical of Brazilian Imperial pattern coinage of the period. |
