| 表面の説明 | Central raised disk with horizontally engine-turned (roulette) ground bearing the date 1838 in large serif numerals. The annular field surrounding the central disk carries the legend IMPERIO DO BRAZIL disposed around the circumference in bold raised capital letters. The entire design is enclosed by a finely toothed milled border. The coin is oriented so that the legend reads correctly from the top, giving the piece a medal-like presentation typical of Brazilian Imperial pattern coinage of the period. |

Brazil's copper coinage in the 1830s was a persistent administrative headache. The country was flooded with counterfeit and worn colonial-era copper, and the imperial government repeatedly attempted to regularize small denomination production without ever quite committing to a solution. This 1838 pattern was part of that ongoing, unresolved effort under the young Pedro II — crowned at fourteen following his father's abdication in 1831.
KM#Pn53 never entered circulation. The copper small-denomination problem limped on for decades afterward.
