Opmerkingen

Clydesdale Bank has operated as a Scottish chartered bank since 1838, and its right to issue its own sterling banknotes — still exercised today — is preserved under the Banking Act 1845. This £20 note spans the brief overlap between two chief executives: Alan Cole Hamilton, whose tenure ended in 1992, and the signature of his successor appearing from January 1993. The change in signing authority mid-series means four distinct signature variants exist across a three-year run, which collectors of Scottish provincial issues track carefully.

Printed at the Clydesdale's own Glasgow facilities rather than outsourced to a specialist security printer, the production run is relatively modest compared to clearing bank equivalents.
