| 表面の説明 | At left, a portrait of Robert I (the Bruce) in armour and crown with a banner behind him anchors the design, set against a dominant guilloche underprint in pink and purple tones; the large intaglio numeral '20' and a ship vignette occupy the lower right field. Clydesdale Bank has operated as a Scottish chartered bank since 1838, and its right to issue its own sterling banknotes — still exercised today — is preserved under the Banking Act 1845. This £20 note spans the brief overlap between two chief executives: Alan Cole Hamilton, whose tenure ended in 1992, and the signature of his successor appearing from January 1993. The change in signing authority mid-series means four distinct signature variants exist across a three-year run, which collectors of Scottish provincial issues track carefully.
Printed at the Clydesdale's own Glasgow facilities rather than outsourced to a specialist security printer, the production run is relatively modest compared to clearing bank equivalents.
