The curved legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs across the upper field, with BANCO NACIONAL DE CUBA inscribed in a secondary arc immediately above the coat of arms. Above the locomotive, the mint year 1988 is inscribed in the field, flanked by a small five-pointed star and a crossed-keys motif. The peripheral legend 150 ANIV. DEL 1er FERROCARRIL HISPANO-AMERICANO curves around the upper and lateral fields. Below the locomotive, the route inscription HABANA-BEJUCAL and the commemorative dates 1837-1987 are inscribed, with CUBA centred beneath.
