A central guilloche rosette of interlacing ribbon-like lathe work fills most of the surface, at the heart of which the denomination numeral '20' and the legend VEINTE PESOS appear in bold blue lettering. A dashed signature line at upper centre is captioned FIRMA DEL TENEDOR / EN PRESENCIA DEL PAGADOR, while two further dashed lines at lower centre are labelled FECHA DE EMISION and FIRMA DEL TENEDOR respectively. The lower border carries the inscription CADUCA A LOS CINCO AÑOS DE EMITIDO, and the denomination VEINTE PESOS repeats in each corner area. |

Cuba's Foreign Exchange Certificate series was created to siphon hard currency away from the parallel black market while giving tourists and diplomats a controlled medium of exchange — pesos that couldn't legally be used by ordinary Cubans. The "C" series, distinguished from the earlier "A" and "B" issues, was introduced in the mid-1980s as the government tightened oversight of dollar-denominated transactions through the Cubatur and INTUR retail networks.
The narrow "C" variety is a positional printing distinction within the series, not a separate issue — collectors differentiate it from the wide "C" by the typography of the overprint alone. Printed domestically by Impresos de Seguridad rather than contracted abroad, these certificates are among the few Cuban notes of the period produced entirely on the island.
