| Obverse description | The Montenegrin royal coat of arms dominates the field, depicting a double-headed eagle displayed with wings spread, each head facing outward, surmounted by a large imperial crown topped with a Latin cross. The eagle's dexter talon clasps a sword and the sinister talon holds an orb and cross, while a central escutcheon on the breast bears a lion passant. The word ESSAI appears incuse in the right field, identifying this piece as a trial strike. The design is enclosed by a fine beaded border. |
