At centre, the denomination numeral '20' appears in bold within an oval cartouche flanked by symmetrical star and scroll ornaments; a series letter 'A' is printed at upper left. Below, the body text in Fraktur script sets out the conditions of acceptance by the Stadtkasse, the expiry date of 31 January 1919, and the city's guarantee of redemption, concluded with the place and date 'Hersfeld, 4. A panoramic view of Hersfeld occupies the main field, dominated by the Romanesque ruins of the Stiftskirche at right with rolling hills in the background, rendered in a fine line-engraved style. The city name 'Stadt Hersfeld' with a heraldic cross appears in Fraktur at the top of the vignette panel, flanked by the serial number; the denomination '20' is repeated in boxed numerals at left and right margins, and the inscription 'Zwanzig Mark' is overprinted in large Fraktur script across the centre of the vignette. |
