Württemberg's elevation to a kingdom in 1806 — Napoleon's reward to Frederick for switching sides before Austerlitz — triggered an immediate overhaul of the coinage. These kreuzers belong to the first regal series struck under the new royal title, issued while Frederick was simultaneously drafting a constitution that he would ultimately suppress in favor of personal rule. The kingdom absorbed dozens of formerly independent territories in this period, each with its own monetary tradition, making standardization both a political and a practical necessity.
