Obverse description Central device comprises an ornate oval shield bearing the arms of Obwalden — a horizontal bar dividing the field — surmounted by a decorative crown with foliate finial, the whole enclosed within a wreath of laurel and palm sprigs tied at the base. The circumferential legend reads MONETA REIP: SVBSYLVANIÆ SVPERIORIS, distributed around the periphery in Roman capitals within a beaded border. The overall engraving style is characteristic of mid-eighteenth-century Swiss cantonal coinage.
