Several sailing vessels with reflected masts are rendered in the foreground waters, conveying movement and maritime atmosphere. Seagulls in flight are incused in the upper right field, adding naturalistic detail to the composition. The design is executed in a fine engraved style with strong relief contrasts between the architectural elements and the reflective water surface. |

Twelve six-pointed stars, symbolic of the European Union, are arranged in a partial arc framing the upper and lateral portions of the field in the manner of the EU emblem. The Monnaie de Paris mint mark appears at the bottom of the field below the date. The overall design is bold and legible, in keeping with the commemorative euro precursor issues of the late 1990s. |
