| Descrizione del dritto | The central field displays the full coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, featuring a sailing ship on the sea, a rising sun, a palm tree, a dove, and a plow, all within a shield surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto. The date 1998 is split to either side of the shield. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' appears at the top of the coin, with the motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' inscribed on the inner scroll of the arms. Liberia's late-1990s commemorative silver program was frankly a collector-market confection — the country had no meaningful connection to the Chinese lunar calendar, and these pieces were produced for export sale, primarily into Asian and Pacific Rim markets hungry for bullion-format lunar issues. The "Type II" designation distinguishes a second die or packaging variant within the same year of issue, a common practice among the private minting contractors Liberia engaged during this period.
