| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents a dramatic high-relief sculptural composition depicting the confrontation between the hero Theseus and the Minotaur within the Labyrinth of Crete. To the left, Theseus is rendered in profile facing right, wearing a crested Corinthian helmet with flowing locks visible beneath; his draped shoulder and the hilt of a weapon are discernible at the lower field. To the right, the monstrous Minotaur looms in powerful three-quarter view, its bull head rendered with fierce detail including flaring nostrils, open jaws, and a wild mane, its muscular arm clutching a pointed weapon. The background field is engraved with spiralling labyrinthine passages, evoking the mythological setting, while a Greek meander border frames the composition at the rim. The antiqued silver finish enhances the dramatic contrast between the raised figural elements and the darkened recessed field. |

Palau has operated as one of the Pacific's most prolific bullion and collector-issue mints-by-proxy since the 1990s, licensing its sovereign authority to European producers — primarily the Bavarian State Mint and the Mint of Poland — to manufacture high-relief numismatic pieces sold almost entirely to the international collector market. This piece is part of that commercial program, not a product of any domestic monetary need.
The Theseus series draws on the Attic myth recorded most fully by Plutarch in his *Life of Theseus*, written around 75 AD.
