Pietro Annigoni's involvement is the unusual element here. The Florentine painter — best known for his 1955 portrait of Elizabeth II commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers — provided the royal likeness that De La Rue adapted for several Commonwealth note series during this period. Fiji was among a handful of Pacific territories that received the design in the mid-1970s as decolonizing nations navigated the pragmatic question of whom to trust with their currency printing.
