Lady Godiva's famous ride through Coventry — recorded by chroniclers from the 13th century onward but possibly rooted in an 11th-century noblewoman named Godgifu, wife of Leofric, Earl of Mercia — has no direct connection to Palau, a Pacific island nation that has built one of the more aggressive commemorative programs among modern sovereign mints.
