| Beschrijving keerzijde | Printed in olive-brown on plain paper, the reverse presents a purely typographic design with no pictorial vignette. The denomination TWENTY and CENTAVOS appear in large bold capitals at center, separated by the legend COMMONWEALTH OF THE PHILIPPINES, while the numerals 20 and the cent symbol appear in the four corners; the legend EMERGENCY CIRCULATING NOTE OF 1942 runs along the lower margin. The entire design is enclosed within a fine ruled border with a repeating notched outer frame. |

Negros Occidental was one of several Philippine provinces that organized its own emergency currency after the Japanese occupation severed normal banking operations in late 1941 and early 1942. These provincial issues were locally authorized, locally printed, and intended to keep commerce moving in the absence of any functioning central monetary authority. Negros Occidental's committee was among the more organized, producing a full range of denominations with reasonable consistency.
Guerrilla and provincial emergency notes from this period are frequently found with foxing, moisture damage, or handling wear — the tropical storage conditions and wartime use took a predictable toll. The S644 is no exception as a type.
