Apamea in Phrygia — refounded by Antiochus I and later resettled with Macedonian veterans — maintained a robust tradition of civic bronze coinage under Augustus, with issues authorized by named local magistrates. The magistrate name preserved here, Dionysios son of Apollonios, follows the standard eponymous format used across Phrygian civic mints in the Augustan period, where local Greek families competed for the prestige of attaching their names to imperial-era issues.
The ethnic ΜΕΛΙΤΩΝ ΑΠΑΜΕΩΝ is comparatively rare on the bronze sequence, appearing on only a handful of dies known to von Aulock's corpus.
